Useful NZTA Resources (we summarise the main points here) that protect vehicle sellers.

- Online Notice of Disposal

- Selling to a Wrecker
Disclose if the Vehicle is Unregistered. If your vehicle is unregistered, it’s important to tell the buyer upfront. The buyer won’t be able to transfer the ownership into their name unless it is re-registered, which may require repairs, inspections, and additional fees. Be honest and upfront to avoid any future issues
Notify NZTA After the Sale. Once your vehicle is sold, you must notify NZTA using their Notice of Disposal form. This step ensures you’re no longer legally responsible for the vehicle. Failing to do so can result in fines or liability if the car is involved in incidents after it’s sold.
Selling to a Wrecker? You Still Need to Notify NZTA. Even if you’re selling your vehicle to a wrecker, like A2Z Auto Dismantlers, you still need to complete the Notice of Disposal form with NZTA. For more details, check the official guidelines here.
